Laser cutting machine
A connected industrial laser cutting machine continuously supplies data via IIoT. It can therefore be paid for per part produced instead of being bought, and maintenance follows the actual condition of its components.

Industrial laser cutting machine: pay per part, maintain by condition
The pay-per-part solution from TRUMPF and Munich Re is based on the TruLaser Center 7030, a connected, fully automated machine covering the cutting process from drawing to sorted part, including loading and unloading. An IIoT component continuously collects data; TRUMPF provides remote support, and technicians check the machine status and plan maintenance in advance. Relayr, a Munich Re subsidiary, adds data-based production guarantees: users are compensated for unplanned downtime. For Trumpf 2D laser cutting machines, Codestryke developed a retrofit solution using Arrow's iCOMOX sensor box. It measures vibration, magnetic field, acoustics and temperature; an edge device filters the data and sends it to the cloud via NB-IoT, Power over Ethernet or SmartMesh IP.
The examples come from sheet metal processing, automotive and metal and electronics. The Riguzzi Group and Gysi AG modernise their machine park through pay-per-part without taking out loans and know the cost of every part before production. A sheet metal product manufacturer uses the model to build additional in-house capacity instead of outsourcing laser cutting. A Codestryke user detects bearing damage immediately during troubleshooting, down to the affected bearing, and calculates overall equipment effectiveness from the same data. In podcast episode #4, Josef Brunner of Relayr explains how insurance and risk transfer models reduce the risk of IIoT projects.

Industrial laser cutting machines: frequently asked questions
How does pay per part work for laser cutting?
With pay per part, the operator pays only for the parts produced, and the price is fixed before production. TRUMPF and Munich Re offer pay-per-part for this with the connected TruLaser Center 7030. Before an order is produced, the manufacturer sees the exact costs and decides which orders to accept. The Riguzzi Group and Gysi AG are modernising their machine park this way without taking out loans.
How does a laser cutting machine retrofit work?
In a retrofit, an existing laser cutting machine is fitted with a sensor box without rewiring PLCs and gateways. Codestryke uses Arrow's iCOMOX sensor box for this, which is mounted inside or outside the machine. It measures vibration, magnetic field, acoustics and temperature. An edge device filters and compresses the data and forwards only changes in readings to the IoT platform in the cloud.
How can wear on a laser cutting head be detected?
Wear on the laser cutting head and other components shows up in sensor data on vibration, magnetic field, acoustics and temperature. In three-shift operation, nozzles get damaged, the lens can lose its focus and the mechanics of the moving cutting head can wear loose. Codestryke's solution with Arrow's iCOMOX sensor box uses this data to detect defective components. A cloud analytics application determines the condition of the components at any time.
How can industrial laser cutting machine maintenance be planned by condition?
Industrial laser cutting machine maintenance can be planned according to condition when sensors continuously record component wear: there is then neither unnecessary maintenance nor unexpected failure. In three-shift operation, nozzles, lens and cutting head mechanics wear unevenly, so fixed intervals were inefficient. The Codestryke solution uses a cloud analytics application to determine the condition of the components at any time and detects bearing damage immediately.

Pump
Pump monitoring with IoT records vibration, temperature, pressure and energy consumption of running pumps. Operators detect damage and faults before a pump fails and plan maintenance by condition rather than at fixed intervals.
Compressor
With IoT, compressor maintenance follows actual condition: sensors record current consumption, pressure, temperature and running times. Operators detect creeping damage and unused running time early and cut energy and service costs.
Electric motor
Motor condition monitoring with IoT continuously measures the vibration, temperature and current draw of electric motors. Operators detect imbalance, bearing damage or winding faults early and replace motors based on condition rather than after a failure.
Packaging machine
OEE software automatically records run times, downtime, speed and rejects on packaging machines from the machine signals. Operators see where their lines lose performance, and machine builders use the same data for remote access and digital services.
Refrigeration system
A refrigeration monitoring system makes service plannable: temperatures, refrigerant circuit pressures, compressor status and energy consumption flow into a platform in real time. Operators and service partners detect faults early, avoid unnecessary site visits and reduce excess consumption.
Air conditioning system
Commercial air conditioning systems in offices, retail branches and data centres can be monitored remotely with IoT. Operators see energy consumption, temperatures and faults in one place, detect failing compressors or refrigerant shortages early and plan service visits precisely.
