Incubator
A connected laboratory incubator reports temperature, humidity, CO₂ and alarms to a platform. Deviations from setpoints are noticed immediately rather than on the next inspection round, and every batch is fully documented.

IoT retrofit creates digital services for legacy devices
Memmert connects its climate and temperature control devices with the IoT retrofit by KURZ Digital. Legacy devices can now be monitored remotely via app.

Biotech: how CO.DON ensures stable processes and high quality
Laboratory incubators: keep every value in view remotely
At Memmert, a retrofit gateway from KURZ Digital connects even older incubators, heating ovens and climate chambers to the platform via encrypted Wi-Fi or LAN. It accesses the data through the device's local interface, every 30 seconds by default. Depending on the device type, the solution processes up to 13 measured variables, including temperature, humidity, oxygen and carbon dioxide, plus setpoints and actual values, alarm limits, programme status and events. Alarms go out as push notifications to the iOS and Android apps or by email. At CO.DON, ENLYZE records the data from all controllers, stores it redundantly in two clouds from different providers and displays it in Grafana dashboards.
The examples come from pharmaceuticals and biotech as well as mechanical and plant engineering, as temperature measurement within condition monitoring and as audit reporting. Memmert bundles its digital services under the myChamber brand, with a monitoring app, LIMS integration and interfaces to other IT systems. Biotech company CO.DON grows cartilage cells in incubators for around 30 to 60 days and has to comply with GMP guidelines. In Leipzig, ENLYZE connected all 24 controllers of the production plant within five hours without disrupting operations. Quality assurance receives the plant parameters for each batch in visual form.
Laboratory incubators: frequently asked questions
Which values does a connected CO2 incubator for cell culture monitor?
Besides carbon dioxide, a connected CO₂ incubator transmits temperature, humidity and oxygen as well as setpoints, actual values and alarm limits. For Memmert devices, the KURZ Digital solution processes up to 13 measured variables depending on the device type, including vacuum and fan speed. Programme data such as operating mode and expected programme end are added, along with logged alarms, warnings and information messages.
How does remote incubator temperature monitoring work for cell culture?
A gateway reads the temperature via the incubator's local interface and sends it to a cloud platform, every 30 seconds by default at Memmert, with a configurable interval. If a reading deviates, the system triggers an event and notifies users by push notification on their smartphone or by email. This means a deviation is no longer noticed only on the next inspection round.
Can incubators be connected to a LIMS system?
Yes, connected incubators can be linked to a laboratory information management system. Memmert offers myChamber LIMS for this, an interface developed by KURZ Digital. Via myChamber Link, device data also flows into the operator's other IT systems. At CO.DON, the process data is to be linked to MasterControl quality management software so that deviations can be traced by batch number.
What does GMP data integrity require from incubator monitoring?
GMP requires complete monitoring and documentation of production, which official bodies check regularly. At CO.DON, this included verifiable data validity and long-term storage for 30 years in redundant data stores. ENLYZE stores all data in two clouds from different providers. One week after connection, the required values had been identified and, where necessary, correctly scaled, so validation could begin.

Pump
Pump monitoring with IoT records vibration, temperature, pressure and energy consumption of running pumps. Operators detect damage and faults before a pump fails and plan maintenance by condition rather than at fixed intervals.
Compressor
With IoT, compressor maintenance follows actual condition: sensors record current consumption, pressure, temperature and running times. Operators detect creeping damage and unused running time early and cut energy and service costs.
Electric motor
Motor condition monitoring with IoT continuously measures the vibration, temperature and current draw of electric motors. Operators detect imbalance, bearing damage or winding faults early and replace motors based on condition rather than after a failure.
Packaging machine
OEE software automatically records run times, downtime, speed and rejects on packaging machines from the machine signals. Operators see where their lines lose performance, and machine builders use the same data for remote access and digital services.
Refrigeration system
A refrigeration monitoring system makes service plannable: temperatures, refrigerant circuit pressures, compressor status and energy consumption flow into a platform in real time. Operators and service partners detect faults early, avoid unnecessary site visits and reduce excess consumption.
Air conditioning system
Commercial air conditioning systems in offices, retail branches and data centres can be monitored remotely with IoT. Operators see energy consumption, temperatures and faults in one place, detect failing compressors or refrigerant shortages early and plan service visits precisely.
