Filtration plant
Industrial filtration system monitoring with IoT lets manufacturers and operators supervise every filtration plant remotely. They see differential pressure, operating data and faults live, plan maintenance and filter changes, and save trips to the site.

Remote monitoring for industrial filtration systems
In the solution examples, Herding measures the differential pressure between the raw gas and clean gas sides of its dust extraction systems and uses WAGO Analytics to create automated dashboards in the cloud. On fully automatic AQUACHEM filter presses, products from INSYS icom provide the interface to the company network, and operating data is sent to a cloud portal for analysis. In MANN+HUMMEL's air filter columns, the optiMEAS smartMINI edge device records fan speed, power consumption and temperature, error messages, operating hours and a rain sensor, and sends the data to the cloud via MQTT. Control commands are returned to the fans via Modbus.
The examples come from mechanical engineering, chemicals, energy and the environment, mostly as filter monitoring within condition monitoring. Herding also tracks trends from the past 20 years in the system and solves many problems via the dashboard alone. AQUACHEM monitors filter presses in environments with toxic or corrosive substances remotely, so maintenance staff only need to be on site for actual failures. More than 100 columns of MANN+HUMMEL Filter Cubes clean outdoor air, for example in Stuttgart and Heilbronn.

Industrial filtration systems: frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of connecting an industrial filtration system?
A connected filtration system reports its condition continuously instead of only becoming noticeable at the next inspection. Manufacturers and operators see differential pressure and operating data remotely and can plan maintenance ahead. Herding saves long journeys because many problems can already be solved via the dashboard. On request, customers receive their own login details and see the same data as the manufacturer.
Can a filter press be monitored remotely?
Yes, fully automatic filter presses can be monitored remotely via a remote maintenance solution. AQUACHEM uses products from INSYS icom that connect the press to the company network and transfer operating data to a cloud portal. In the event of a fault, the problem is identified quickly. Because regular maintenance rounds are no longer needed, staff have to enter areas with corrosive or toxic substances less often.
What data does a connected dust extraction system provide?
The most important variable of a dust extraction system is the differential pressure between the raw gas and clean gas sides. It shows when the filter is sufficiently loaded and needs cleaning. Herding, a manufacturer of filter systems with its own sintered lamellar filter, records these values with WAGO Analytics and displays them in automatically generated dashboards. For new installations, this helps to monitor performance right from the start.
How can replacement filters be reordered on time?
Replacement filters arrive on time when the loading status is known and the order is triggered automatically. For a manufacturer of filtration systems, elunic implemented two approaches: newer systems report their sensor values to the cloud via an edge device, while older ones are labelled with QR codes and recorded via an app. New filters thus arrive just as the maximum value is reached, and users need to stock fewer filters.

Pump
Pump monitoring with IoT records vibration, temperature, pressure and energy consumption of running pumps. Operators detect damage and faults before a pump fails and plan maintenance by condition rather than at fixed intervals.
Compressor
With IoT, compressor maintenance follows actual condition: sensors record current consumption, pressure, temperature and running times. Operators detect creeping damage and unused running time early and cut energy and service costs.
Electric motor
Motor condition monitoring with IoT continuously measures the vibration, temperature and current draw of electric motors. Operators detect imbalance, bearing damage or winding faults early and replace motors based on condition rather than after a failure.
Packaging machine
OEE software automatically records run times, downtime, speed and rejects on packaging machines from the machine signals. Operators see where their lines lose performance, and machine builders use the same data for remote access and digital services.
Refrigeration system
A refrigeration monitoring system makes service plannable: temperatures, refrigerant circuit pressures, compressor status and energy consumption flow into a platform in real time. Operators and service partners detect faults early, avoid unnecessary site visits and reduce excess consumption.
Air conditioning system
Commercial air conditioning systems in offices, retail branches and data centres can be monitored remotely with IoT. Operators see energy consumption, temperatures and faults in one place, detect failing compressors or refrigerant shortages early and plan service visits precisely.
