Container
Container tracking software with IoT shows where a container is and its status, whether an air freight container, a container in a construction fleet or a unit shipped worldwide. Companies save search time and plan storage more precisely.

Container tracking software: know where every container is
In air freight, ACP Digital attaches sensors directly to the unit load devices. The data travels via Sigfox's LPWAN to the Azure Cloud and Azure IoT Services. For Schielicke Bau, DeDeNet tracking boxes record location, machine hours and telemetry data via CAN bus, supplemented by Bluetooth Low Energy and RFID, stored in Telekom data centres and accessible through an open API. Digital geofences show what happens within a site area. For worldwide container tracking, Epsilon relies exclusively on NB-IoT.
The examples come from logistics, construction and retail. An air freight customer of ACP Digital follows its ULDs into interim storage at airports and gains transparency over control, positioning, maintenance and repair of the containers. Schielicke Bau from Beelitz runs more than 100 vehicles, including containers, lorries and construction machinery, on real-time data. Using RFID from TURCK Vilant Systems, ProMart operates an unmanned spare parts store in an ISO container on the building site, with stocktaking at the push of a button. Podcast episodes #103 with Volker Mahler and Florian Sonntag of Epsilon and #125 on Schielicke Bau add further practice.

Container tracking software: frequently asked questions
How can ULD containers be tracked in air freight?
Sensors attached directly to the ULDs send their data via an LPWAN to software that displays location and status. ACP Digital uses the Sigfox network, the Azure Cloud and Azure IoT Services for this. The air freight customer can see exactly where its containers are. This matters because all ULDs are stored at airports before loading, and unused or missing storage space causes high costs.
How does construction equipment tracking cover site containers?
Tracking boxes record the location and status of every container and machine and send the data to head office in real time. Schielicke Bau uses DeDeNet's solution for more than 100 vehicles, including containers, lorries and construction machinery. Digital geofences show what happens within a site area, such as how long a unit was active and what temperatures prevailed. All data can be retrieved via an open API.
What technology does a worldwide container tracking system need?
It needs a tracker with suitable radio technology and a secure power supply that connects in many countries. For container tracking, Epsilon relies on pure Narrowband IoT rather than 2G and advises customers on hardware, radio systems and power supply, as podcast episode #103 shows. In the short term, tracking reduces losses and theft; over time, the data collected reveals delays in the supply chain.
How does a container support jobsite inventory management?
With RFID on goods and access, a container records every withdrawal automatically. ProMart operates the EasyMart store this way, a mobile spare parts store in an ISO container with hardware and software from TURCK Vilant Systems. Users open it with a personal RFID card, scan the goods and confirm the purchase. Invoicing, goods issue and reordering run automatically, and stocktaking is possible at any time at the push of a button.

Transport container
Shipment monitoring with IoT reports where a transport container is and whether anyone opens it without authorisation. For valuable or sensitive goods, the system raises an alarm immediately instead of a theft only being noticed by the recipient.
Load carrier
An RTLS locates load carriers such as mesh boxes, pallets and bins across halls and plants in real time. Companies cut search times, replace accompanying paperwork and manual scanning, and trigger bookings and transports automatically.
Pallet
Pallet tracking with IoT shows where every pallet is, what is on it and how much stock remains. Sensors, RFID and wireless networks replace search trips, manual scanning and stocktaking counts with a forklift.
Process vessel
Process monitoring with IoT continuously records level, temperature, humidity and other parameters in a process vessel. Without inspection rounds, operators know when to refill or empty it and whether the contents are still usable.
Collection container
Waste container monitoring connects collection containers and waste locks so that they report fill levels and emptying events in real time. Operators see which containers are full, plan collections accordingly and bill by actual use.
Fuel tank
An IoT fuel tank monitoring system reports the level of a plant's diesel tank, emergency fuel reserves or a construction dryer's fuel tank continuously and remotely. Operators plan refills on real values and detect theft or leaks early.
